WELCOME TO CASA RURAL NEMESIO    UCR 01017

Casa rural Nemesio, built in 1900, has been handed down through generations. Its last refurbishment took place in 2004, giving it its present look.
Famili  Galartza Urdanitz.

Casa Rural Nemesio is situated in Iturmendi, in the Sakana Valley. This pre-pyrenaic valley is surrounded by the Natural Parks of Urbasa-Andía, Aralar and others. It is an exceptional place to enjoy nature and tranquility (walks, local produce, gastronomy...) and also for those who prefer other kinds of activities can choose from mountain biking, horse riding, caving, paragliding, trekking, etc.

Iturmendi, with just 400 inhabitants, has the advantages of a small town: tranquility and freedom for the little ones and there are many other choices for having a good time like the children´s playground, sheltered frontón, swimming pool, forests... Guys! Do not forget the rackets, balls, footballs, skates and bycicles!!!

If you are interested in culture, you cannot avoid immersing in the magical atmosphere that you find here, where you will discover ancient legends and stories (Lamias, Gentiles, Teodosio de Goñi, etc.). Also taking part in the different customs and traditions (carnivals, processions, Maiatza, autumn fair, cattle and craft fairs.)

How did our ancestors manage to get electricity? How is the fantastic cheese we use in our sandwiches and snacks made? To find out, you can visit a hydroelectric mill, or learn the craftsmanship of cheese and its derivatives.

And, thanks to good road network, you can get to Pamplona or Vitoria in just 30 minutes.

Places of interest
  • NATURAL PARK OF URBASA-ANDIA
  • NATURAL PARK OF ARALAR
  • NATURAL PARK OF AITZGORRI
  • SARABE VALLEY
  • FIELDS OF SAN PEDRO AND DANTZALEKU OAK FOREST

                            Natural park of Urbasa-Andia

Urbasa stands gaining height from the valley, and there is a web of galleries, caves, chasms, where underground water runs. Nowadays we can find more than 750 of these formations, some of them suitable for descent and exploring whilst others still remain unspoiled.

Some of the places to visit are:-
The Enchanted forest
Route of the Dolmens, of the fountains, and of the sheperds
Caves: Cristinos, Lamiatutu, Basanziturri, Noriturri
Natural Reserve of Urederra
Thousand year old trees
Balcony of Pilatos

Andía is the natural extension of the mountain of Urbasa. This great plateau, known as Zunbeltz, or Lizarraga, possess fields alternating with birch forests, forming the natural circus and the source of the river Urederra.

Nearby, just a few kms away from the road (NA120) we can find the remains of a Roman road, which went from Valdega to Arakil. The peak of this mountain range is Beriain.

                             Beriain

Peak at 1.494 m altitude, located in the Natural Park of Andía, with a steep slope of more than 1.000m, also known as a vertical kilometer.

Its highest peak towers over the Sakana Valley (aka The Burunda Corridor). This mountain range finishes in Ihurbain with a height of 1.420 m where we see the great “Crevice of Ihurbain”, and can watch the majestic overflowing waterfall that goes down wildly through its crevice after the rain.

Vertical kilometre. Every year the race of “Vertical Kilometer of Beriain” is celebrated which counts towards the championship in the Basque Country.

Also, Beriain has a chapel in its uppermost part, with the same name, which was first cited in the year 1642.

NATURAL PARK OF ARALAR

This park belongs to Guipuzcoa and Navarra, and it is very important for the sheperdment during springtime and summertime, as well as for its megalithic patrimony, ecological value and its extension.

At the top of the Aralar mountain we find the sanctuary and legends of San Miguel. A refuge here provides visitors the opportunity to taste a typical dish and enjoy the superb views over the Valley of Sakana, Beriain and the Natural Park of Urbasa.

The pastures predominate over the highest parts of the mountain with its warm temperatures in summer, and are inhabited by herds of latxa sheep, mares, cows and donkeys.

The park is also full of wild fauna like the alpine triton, nival rat, wild boar, wild cat, etc.

The “Guardetxe” (House of the park ranger)

NATURAL PARK OF AITZGORRI

At 1.428m of altitude, take in the breathtaking views of landscapes and the surrounding mountain peaks of Urbasa-Andia, Aralar and the fields of Urbiola.

The peak also named Aitzgorri has a trek up the mountain of medium level difficulty and mountaineers that climb up this mountain usually repeat the climb.

This park is crossed by a Roman road which is well conserved.

SARABE

This tiny valley submerged between thousand year old oaks, chestnut trees and green pastures and bordering with Iturmendi, has a natural fortressed wall to one side where some of the Basque mythology is kept.

There is also a spectacular walk for the sights and sounds of nature and tasting of artesanal products in a local farm.

FIELDS OF SAN PEDRO

These fields hold centenary oaks worth visiting. The chapel with the same name San Pedro, was a place of celebration. Here was crowned the first king of Navarra, Garcia Ximenez in the year 717. It´s a magical place, especially for walks, biking, horse riding, and running etc.
